RESTORATION MENTORING COUNSELING SERVICES

A Word From The Founder

Greetings to all Baton Rouge residents and the surrounding areas.

I am Lawrence Ferdinand Legard, III. I was born and raised in South Baton Rouge and graduated from McKinley Senior High School. I attended Grambling State University and obtained an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice in 1990. Later I attended Louisiana State University and obtained a Masters in Social Work in 1996.

I am the founder and President of Restoration Mentoring Counseling Services, Inc. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with over 23 years experience. I’ve worked at Jetson Correctional Center for Youth for 18 years and Elayn Hunt Correctional Center for 5 years.

There is much knowledge to be shared with those who want better for themselves. JESUS CHRIST is the author and finisher of my faith in this spiritual program. Our hope and prayer is every young man who enters the program will understand that life behind bars is a total waste of time–and it’s highly possible he never returns to his family. My areas of expertise include Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, Reality Therapy, Substance Abuse, Victim Awareness, and Problem Solving Skills. My experience is in the development of treatment plans, mediation between clients and court appointed officers as well as psychiatrist and rehabilitative service providers.

The goals of RMCS are to:

  1. STOP juveniles on probation from progressing to adult corrections.
  2. Provide comprehensive counseling and mentoring services for both men and teenage males who are currently on probation/parole and report results to the appropriate authorities to decrease the likelihood of further incarceration.
  3. Provide services and support to those individuals during re-entry to society post-incarceration.
  4. Provide mentoring/counseling to juveniles that are disrespecting parental rules in home/school and possibly explore alternative education, GED, trade school, etc.
  5. Educate how drugs affect the mind as well as the body.
  6. Ultimately, educate our young people that the Department of Corrections is a place where they do not want to reside.

Parents we “see it through” because we are all “bridge builders” in this process. I urge you to take this program seriously whether your child is in the system or on the fence. HOSEA 4:6 states “My people perish for the lack of knowledge.” I currently work at the Hunt Correctional Center and witness former juveniles from Jetson Correctional and they wish they had listened to all the sessions of counseling but some are facing a life sentence. “So as a man thinketh in his heart so is he.” PROVERBS 23:7
